Apply for registration — architects registered in East Africa
Architects registered in a partner state have a defined route into the Rwandan register. You still register with RIA before practising here.
Regional recognition
Rwanda is a member of the East Africa Institute of Architects, established in 1913, whose membership is drawn from the institutes of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. EAIA operates a mutual recognition arrangement intended to allow architects registered in one partner state to practise in another.
Recognition changes what you must prove. It does not remove the requirement to register with RIA before you practise in Rwanda.

Confirm your home registration
Hold current registration in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania or Burundi. - 02
Assemble your documents
An application letter, a detailed CV, your notified diploma, a portfolio, a logbook of professional training records, professional training certificates and annual practice licences (at least three from previous years and one current), a copy of your work permit or visa if you will operate locally, a copy of your passport, and a recommendation letter from your home regulator. - 03
Pay the application fee
RWF 300,000, non-refundable, payable after the secretariat confirms your documents are complete. - 04
Register with RIA
Recognition supports your application; it does not replace it.
